It’s so great seeing others support each other!
What I’m doing on here isn’t for a business or an attempt to be “insta-famous”, although I support love those who are on here for that! But, I am her to be in a little community of creatives, moms, jokesters, encouragers, etc...
It’s hard for me to get out and get to know others, mostly because I’m a keep-to-myself type, but also because I’m a stay at home mom and that’s a part of this life. Some may disagree but for this season in my life I’m embracing it. I have met some sweet women from different cities, I have gotten to know ladies in my own community better and have been able to reconnect with people I hadn’t talked to in years, its’s awesome!
So, thank you to those showing up on this little app to connect with me and others, to those who encourage and inspire me, to those who give me a good laugh, to those who double tap on my pictures to show your presence and support- I see you and I appreciate you!

• My biggest feat will be convincing Jordan to let me replace the ceiling fan with a chandelier. We shall see. He sure loves him a ceiling fan 🤓.

I plan to do all of this steadily. I have a budget but I’m also not going to get something for this room just to fill it or “complete” it. I’m going to search for things diligently and bring y’all along for the fun!

So why did I feel the need to share about debt? Because I need you to know we didn’t go into debt to remodel our house. I need you to know that I struggled during the time we were saving for the remodel. I focused so much on what I didn’t have & what others were doing. It was a problem. I didn’t enjoy the time before our remodel. Though, looking back I see that I learned a few things...
I learned to decorate with what I had & I rearranged things to feel new. I got the courage to make a slipcover for our hand-me-down sofa. I learned how to paint properly & how to shop well at a thrift store. I learned that good thrifted finds don’t have to be dupes of what’s trending. I learned that if it doesn’t bring you joy than get rid of it.
AND after the kitchen remodel I realized that I was basing my joy off what I had. I thought I’d feel so happy and content after our remodel. I didn’t. I ended up comparing our hard work to high end kitchens. Comparison is a never ending cycle if you let it control you. I’m happy to say I don’t struggle as bad as I did then. I do still struggle but I have helpful things to remind me to stop. They are: Reminding myself that things don’t bring true joy. Reminding myself how far our home has come. Reminding myself that, in the big scheme of things my home is a material possession and it ain’t gettin’ to heaven.
Material things can become a personal prison if you let them rule your life. No debt equals freedom but if you’re looking for joy in things you’re not free.
So I guess if I’m being really honest when I said “if it doesn’t bring you joy, get rid of it” then I should be able to get rid of it all. I know that’s the extreme but it’s a really good thought to keep me humbled.
One of my favorite quotes is by William Morris and it goes like “have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”.
When you’re trying to decide what you want/need for your home, consider what William Morris said. If it’s not useful, maybe pass. If it’s not beautiful to you, consider donating it. Moving forward don’t just buy something because an influencer told you to or because everyone has one.

When Jordan and I moved to our small town, we had

When Jordan and I moved to our small town, we had only been married for one year. I got a job at the local paper doing graphic design and page layout and Jordan started an apprenticeship with an awesome local guy who had his own remodeling company. We lived with Jordan’s family for a little over a year. We had our struggles living with his family; we were still newlyweds. BUT I see now what a blessing it was, they refused rent from us which allowed us to save that money for a down payment. Now, the housing market in my small town is a little different than a bigger town or city. Currently the most expensive house (in city limits) on the market is $185k and the lowest is $29k. We paid somewhere between $29k and $185k. Also something to note, houses were a little cheaper when we were buying because of the recession and a lot of houses were sitting empty 😔. The house we are in now sat empty for over a year.
Moving on: so we didn’t have children or a dog yet and we didn’t take any spendy vacations for about four years, oh, and I drove a 1997 Honda Civic 👊🏻. Sometime I wish I still had that little thing. We lived like we didn’t have money so we could put as much as we could toward our mortgage each month. And in four years our thirty year mortgage, was paid off!
We had a unique situation to be able to do this, although, we made smart choices and sacrifices to accomplish it. If we were trying to pay off a mortgage today, we would have to sacrifice little luxuries, eat cheaper meals and be VERY aware of where our money goes. But today, I breathe easy without worrying about a mortgage. It allows us to save money for trips or house projects and kids college savings. Some months I don’t stay within the budget and some months I’m below the budget, again, we have that flexibility without a mortgage. I genuinely hope this encourages others, especially younger couples starting out. If you set yourself up and sacrifice early on, then in a very short time compared to life, you can help your marriage by eliminating most money stresses. If you can agree to a budget and stick to it, there won’t be any fighting over money.

Continuing my debt free story...
I left off talking about growing up with debt looming over my head. It was the root of a lot of problems in my family 😔
So, that wasn’t going to be an option for my future. Some people are proud of their college degree (really, so awesome) but I am proud of my debt freeness.
God graciously put a money-wise (among other great things) person in my life. Jordan has taught me a lot as well as Dave Ramsey. I learned to be wise with money by saving, resisting impulse-buys (the majority of the time), researching, researching and researching. I control my urges and wants. I don’t spend money to fill inner needs (only Jesus can fill those). I do however struggle with envy and have to continually remind myself that what I’m envious of is not worth being in debt or spending away our savings. I also want you to know that Jordan and I haven’t always and still don’t always agree on what’s worth spending money on, and that’s ok. Becoming debt free isn’t an easy thing and maintaining a debt free life is hard; you have to say no way more than you say yes. But it is worth it!!
Stay tuned for more! I think I will talk about how we quickly paid off our mortgage and no, we couldn’t pay cash for our house, sorry Dave.

I haven’t talked about the money side of things yet, so here ya go:
Most people find out how expensive it is to furnish a house when they first buy/rent their own. It’s expensive 😩.
Enter the DIY revolution. Making things gave me power, because when you come to the realization that you can’t afford to or just don’t want to spend tons of money on home décor, you feel, defeated. So, I realized I needed to be creative and resourceful if I ever wanted a home I loved and that I didn’t go into debt to create. That’s obviously why DIY has become so popular: fellow cheap people trying to furnish their homes or dress themselves. Too bad I can’t DIY a luxury car 😅. Kidding, I love my humble Honda.
Anyway, If you know me and my husband you know that we both worked in college. I decided to go to community college partly because I didn’t know what I wanted to do in life and the other part because I didn’t want debt. I grew up in a household where debt loomed over our heads, it wasn’t pretty. So if you think that debt doesn’t affect your kids, I’m here to say it absolutely does.
Anyway, Jordan took his basics at a community college and then went to the University of Colorado and when he should have been sleeping, he worked at Home Depot. Y’all, we didn’t bring any debt into our marriage!
Now, before I get comments about how some people can’t do what we did. I get it! That’s fine. But I just want you to see a little bit why I’m not about being in debt. I mentioned above that I grew up with it looming over my head. I didn’t want debt to be another thing in life to give me stress. Life is stressful enough without having money problems, am I right?

Well, this is going to have to be multiple parts because there is too much to say!

My husband is confused when I say there are too many squares in our current living room... Can you see all of them?
If any of you wondered why I’m not keeping the farmhouse style, here’s why:
I have this internal struggle for how I want my house to look. Going to interior design school helped a little but also introduced me to so many great aesthetics that I kind of gave up figuring mine out and went with what was trending. Enter farmhouse style: I love the farmhouse trends, please don’t get me wrong, but, it’s not entirely me. What I love is: eclectic, chic, a mix of traditional and modern, quirky pieces to show my sense of humor and of course the three C’s: calming, cozy and comfortable. So what does all of that look like in one home? I don’t know, but I plan to figure it out and I’m excited to take you on this journey with me!
